Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) was established in 1974 as a division of Coal Mines Authority Limited and became a subsidiary of Coal India Limited in 1975. Headquartered in Ranchi, it is a Schedule-B Public Sector Undertaking with Mini Ratna status since June 2019. CMPDI is certified in ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 37001, demonstrating its commitment to quality and security. The company offers consultancy in mineral exploration, mine planning, and environmental management, serving the coal and mineral sectors, and plays a key role for the Ministry of Coal in R&D and strategic initiatives. CMPDI has seven Regional Institutes and a network of exploration camps across India.
